It is important that you understand that you are signing a legal document. In general, this is a stamp that will be inserted into your foreign passport. An example appears on the right. Note: If you provide your mailing address, all correspondence will be sent there. However, PR cards are not sent to third-party addresses. If you do not provide your residential address, processing will be delayed until you provide it. Paid representatives charge a fee or receive some other form of consideration in exchange for the representation they provide. If you have dependent children who are 18 years of age or older, they must complete their own copy of this form if a representative is also doing business on their behalf. If you request the renewal of your current card, you must keep it until you receive your new card and attach a photocopy to your application. Legal documents with your name or new or correct personal information Form I-90 (officially referred to as the “Application for Permanent Resident Card Replacement”) is the application used to renew or replace a green card. You must file Form I-90 with the United States. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) if your green card has expired or is about to expire, or if it has been lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed, among other things. Regardless of the type of document – an unexpired physical green card or a temporary document – Form I-551 is valid proof of permanent resident status for the purposes of employment and return to the United States after a trip abroad (less than one year old).
Employers must accept Form I-551 as a valid I-9 document, unless it has expired.
